Nillumbik Biggest Ever Blokes’ Lunch on 23rd October 2015.
Our Convenor, Peter Gebert was instrumental in organising the Nillumbik Biggest Ever Blokes’ Lunch on 23rd October 2015 as a fundraiser for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA). It was held at the Nillumbik Community and Reception Centre. Such functions have been run successfully by country groups and this is the first to have been attempted by a city-based group. It was a resounding success with almost 200 attending and raising $14,000 for PCFA.
We are most appreciative of the contributions of sponsors, supporters, entertainers and others who made it all happen. Pictured below is the MC for the event, Tony Shaw doing a cheerful, energetic job. Thank you Tony.
We were delighted to be entertained by Mike Brady, seen below on stage in full voice.
In the background most of the time, keeping the event going smoothly, was our Convenor, Peter Gebert, seen here using balloons to help him shift one of the many donated prizes into position for the auction.
At the November meeting of the Diamond Valley Prostate Cancer Support Group, we presented the cheque for $14,000 to John Strachan of the PCFA.

The Eltham Rotary Club very generously donated this tent to help us to publicise the Support Group at the Eltham Rotary Town Fair on 8th and 9th November 2014. Many people sought information and we gained a small number of new members. Thank you Eltham Rotary.

Awareness Barbecue. March 2014
On Sunday, 23rd March, we staged an Awareness Barbecue at Finn’s Reserve, Templestowe with intention of letting passers-by learn of the existence of our Support Group and of being of some help to those who might have been diagnosed with prostate cancer or know someone who has. We attracted quite a bit of interest but so far, no new members.
